Questions about the guide

Frequently asked questions

How the forum, written questions, candidate webpages, editing and straw poll are handled.

Where did the questions come from?

Both residents and the moderator. Most originated through public outreach, email and question cards. Follow-up questions and some composite questions were prepared to clarify the underlying concern or distinguish candidate positions.

Were all questions asked during the live forum?

No. Time did not permit every submitted question to be asked. The complete question bank shows the range of public interest; it is not a transcript and does not mean every question was asked during the broadcast.

Why are question submitters not named?

Questions were solicited, but residents were not asked for permission to publish their identities. A submitter will be identified only with express permission.

Were questions edited?

Some questions were consolidated or edited for clarity, brevity, duplication and fairness. Public questions presented as verbatim are identified as such in the complete question bank.

Why are written candidate answers pending?

Every candidate received the same seven principal written questions. We plan to post written responses together on September 30. A candidate who declines or does not answer will be identified accordingly.

Was the forum video edited?

Yes. The candidate-focused edition omits introductory remarks and the ‘democracy with a small d’ discussion. No candidate answer was altered. The factual foundation for the omitted discussion is available in the comparison matrix.

Does Laguna Advocates endorse candidates?

Advocates may consider endorsements after hearing from the residents we serve. This guide helps voters compare candidates and reach their own conclusions.

How are candidate webpages selected?

We link to a candidate’s verified campaign webpage when one can be located. If we cannot verify one, the candidate card states ‘No candidate webpage.’ Candidates may send corrections to lagunaadvocates@duck.com.

Is the straw poll scientific?

No. It reflects only participating visitors and is not a representative survey or an election. One response per browser or device per week is requested, but that limit can be bypassed by clearing browser data or using another device.
