Information you provide
If you email us, we receive the information contained in your message, including your email address. We use it to respond, review submitted questions, or communicate about this project. We do not publish a question submitter's identity without express permission.
Email communications
Advocates for Laguna Residents is a political action committee. We may use email addresses obtained from voter-registration records provided by the Orange County Registrar of Voters to send election-related communications, as permitted by California law. Receiving one of these messages does not mean you signed up for ongoing email updates.
If you use the Stay Informed page to request ongoing updates, we will use the email address you send us for that outreach. The page opens a message in your email app; it does not submit or store your information on the website.
We use a commercial email service provider to send these messages on our behalf. The provider processes email addresses only to deliver our messages and manage unsubscribes, and is subject to its own privacy and security terms. We do not sell voter-registration information or email addresses, and we do not provide them to candidates, campaigns, or other organizations for their own use.
You may stop receiving emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a message or by writing to lagunaadvocates@duck.com. We will promptly honor your request and will not email you again.
Straw-poll information
The poll does not request your name or email address. Your browser creates a random identifier and stores it locally on your device. The site stores a one-way hash of that identifier with your poll selections and uses it to allow no more than one response per browser/device identifier during the campaign. Existing responses are retained. This check does not verify a person's identity and can be bypassed by using another browser or device or by clearing browser storage. We do not use IP addresses to limit poll responses. You may optionally select the Laguna Beach area you most identify with. We store that answer with your poll response, and leaving it blank does not prevent submission. We do not ask for a street address or infer your neighborhood from technical information. The poll is informal and not a scientific survey. Only aggregate poll results are published, and individual responses are not shared with candidates or campaigns.
Contributions
If you contribute by Zelle or check, we collect the information the law requires us to keep, including your name, mailing address, occupation, and employer. You may also provide a phone number, which is optional. Contributor information may appear in public campaign filings as required by law. We retain contribution records as required for campaign record-keeping.
Technical information and IP addresses
Our website is hosted on Cloudflare. Our hosting and security providers may automatically process routine technical information, such as an IP address, browser type, device information, timestamps, and request logs, to deliver, secure, and maintain the site. Poll responses are stored on our behalf by Cloudflare. The poll does not use IP addresses to identify voters or decide whether a response is accepted. We do not use routine technical information to create voter profiles.
We rely on service providers, such as website hosting, security, email delivery, and payment services, to operate this site and our outreach. They process information on our behalf and are subject to their own privacy and security practices.
Cookies and local storage
The straw poll uses browser local storage for its random campaign identifier. Clearing browser data removes that identifier. External services linked or embedded on the site, including YouTube, may apply their own cookies and privacy practices.
External links
This site links to candidate webpages, government records, YouTube, and other third-party sources. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
Retention and security
We retain information only as reasonably needed for voter education, correspondence, poll integrity, campaign record-keeping, legal compliance, and site security. Browser/device identifier hashes are retained with poll responses so the site can prevent another submission from the same identifier during the campaign. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Minors
This website is intended for general civic information and is not directed to minors under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors under 18.
